Let's Change The World (Part II)

Fired-up, I was walking on my way home from the leadership summit that I attended to. On my way to the LRT station I was contemplating on the things that I've learned on that conference. Then I saw a child selling cellphone sleeves. What I saw moved my heart. I asked myself how I will apply the things I've learned in the summit. At the same time I realized I will never be able to help all the people who are in need. I can never make ALL people come to Chirist, I can never comfort ALL those people who are hurting, I can never defend ALL those who are abused, I can never counsel ALL those who are confused, I cannot stop wars from breaking-out... The list goes on...

All of these misery and chaos are all foreseen and foretold in the bible. And ALL of these problems will get even worse as time passes on.

But I can make a diffrence.

It's not about changing the world for it is perishing by the moment and it is destined to be destroyed.

Mark 13:1-213:
1 As he was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!"
2 "Do you see all these great buildings?" replied Jesus. "Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." NIV

What Christ wants us, his followers to do is to make a difference.

Matthew 5:14-16
14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
NIV

By God's grace, let us be the difference in this fallen world.

The Two Religions

Have you ever wondered why there are lot of religions especially here in the Philippines? This is because all people wants to go to heaven. Even the "so-called" atheists want to find peace after this life. No one would honestly raise his hand and say, "I want to go to hell." These two religions are divided into two.

Religion of Works
First religion says do this and do that, follow this and follow that so that God will let you go toHeaven.

Here are some examples of what they say you need to do:
Church membership

10 Commandments
Charity
Observing the Law
Sacraments
Good works

Religion of Grace
Second religion says you are doomed.
You're going to hell and you can never change your destination by whatever kind of good works you do. This is the reason why you need a savior.

God is Holy, just, and righteous. Your good works cannot be used to cover-up your evil works. What you have to do is repent and believe that a savior named Jesus Christ died for you. Therefore, live for Him.

dotA, Ministry, and Gym

For weeks, I've been thinking of the kinds of blog topics that I would personally enjoy writing about. Since what you would usually find me doing each week would range between playing dotA, doing Ministry, and working out in the Gym; I thought that these three topics would be perfect. So, my dear readers, especially my fellow dotA enthusiasts, watch out for my next blog entries for I'll be posting about dotA strategies.

Let's Change The World

Today, we will hear a lot of religious preachers, teachers, pastors, and evagelists say this, "Let's change the world." What they're trying to say is they can do something good for the corrupt, dying world or that they can change its destiny for something better. This reminds me of Michael Jackson........ singing..... "Heal the world... Make it a better place..." hahaha... Well, does it sound good? It might, but perhaps they are not reading their bibles. If we will examine the scriptures, we will see that during the last days, things will turn from worse to worst.

Matt 24:7-8
"7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains." NIV

Matt 24:10-12
"10 ...many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.." NIV

2 Tim 3:1-5
"1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power..." NIV

These leaders are giving the people false hope. This is somewhat tantamount to ignoring, opposing, and declaring as untrue what God has foretold to happen in the later days.

Don't Judge The Book By Its Cover

"Don't judge the book by its cover" is an old saying that has been around ever since we can remember. How true is this? Just how useful is it in seeing and "judging" things rightly? Are you one of those who use this as a philosophy in life? Well, even I, believed it once.... But the bible actually teaches the contradiction of this saying.

Jesus said:
Matthew 7:16-20
"16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." NIV

Matthew 12:34

"34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." NIV

Jesus said that you will actually know what kind a person is, if he's good or bad, if he's a true Christian or not(note that there's nothing in between), by the external manifestations (i.e. speech, actions, virtue, character) that you see in his life. Does this mean that all true Christians are incapable of sinning? No, even real Christians can still fall into sins at times but when you look at the over-all "fruits" in their lives, you will see good fruits. In the same way, for the unsaved people who try to act like Christians, you might be able to see some good deeds but generally, their fruits are bad.

Many people today say in defense, "Don't judge me, you don't know what's in my heart." This is like saying, "You can't judge me even if I live like the devil because you don't see what's inside my heart." But Jesus said that I don't need to look into your heart to see its condition. Because out of it will come your actions that will be a perfect measuring stick to determine who you really are. I don't need to look into your heart, I just need to watch you.

NOTE: You also have to check your self
Matthew 7:4-5
"4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." NIV

God Bless You!!!

Carnal And Backslide Christians

Carnal Christians are people that are in the church but continue to "live" in sin, while backslide Christians are people that have temporarily stopped attending the church because they want to "withdraw" from their relationship with the Lord for a while. For most if not in all cases, backsliders go back to their sinful ways during their "cool off" with the Lord and then eventually "go back" to Him after some time.

This kind of problem is not new in our time. These situations have existed even during the days of the early churches. To address these issues, Jesus said that not all who profess faith in Him; claim themselves Christians are genuine.

Matt 7:21-23
21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' NIV

What tragedy this is!
According to the bible, if we want to know if we truly are in the faith; if we truly are saved; if we truly are Christians, it's not to ask ourselves if we have, once in our lives(or even not just once),
prayed a prayer asking Jesus to come into our hearts and that if we were sincere while praying that. The bible says that we should test ourselves...

2 Cor 13:5
"5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test?" NIV

Paul addressed this letter to the Christians in Corinth. There were reports to him that there were "Christian brothers" who still continue to live in sin.
There are many things mentioned about the truly saved in the bible. I can just mention some here.
1 John 1:5-7
"5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." NIV

1 John 2:3-6
"3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." NIV

So, are there really such people as carnal Christians, and Backslide Christians? The scriptures tells us that there are none. You are either a Christian or you're not. You cannot be a Christian and at the same time live in sin. A genuine Christian may at times sin but he will always repent after that and will continue His journey with the Lord with a contrite heart.

It doesn't really matter if you know the Lord. Even satan knows the Lord. But does the Lord know you?
Matt 7:21 & 23
"21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,.. ' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' NIV

If I will go to Malacanang Palace and say to the guards, "I know President Gloria Arroyo, so, let me in." Do you think they will let me in? Of course not. Everyone in the Philippines and even people overseas know her. But if she will say, "I know Rj Trinidad, let him in." They will surely let me in. They will even treat me well beacause of this.

It's the same with our faith.
